A Look Back – 35 Years Ago

It All Started 35 Years Ago Margo K. Daley Soll was a young doctor’s widow with 10 children, two mortgages and no insurance, whose only source of income was Social Security benefits to support her children. She ran her late husband’s office only to find the strong need for a service specializing in the needs of local physicians. It was July of 1976 that Cosmopolitan Medical Communications was started. We are now the largest medical communications service in Arizona, servicing over 3,000 physicians! Our Biggest Accomplishment over 35 Years Cosmopolitan Medical Communications started with a single, old phone company switchboard in a 500 sq. ft. leased office in downtown Glendale by a young widow and her daughters. We have grown from a basic telephone answering service to a full service reception center, including medical appointment scheduling, automated appointment reminders and reception coverage. To accommodate the growth, Cosmopolitan has since built and relocated to a new 12,000 square foot custom designed, state of the art facility in north Glendale conveniently located near Bell Road and the Loop 101 freeway. Cosmopolitan has grown to over 100 employees and beat the odds of most family businesses as it embraces its third generation of the family’s ambitious women – founder Margo K. Daley Soll, her daughter and President/CEO Margo Soll Weiss, and granddaughter Michelle Weiss who is the Director of Business Development. The Biggest Change for Cosmopolitan Technology has been by far the most challenging and rewarding change in the business, providing for growth and opportunity to offer high quality and dynamic services nationwide. Cosmopolitan has been utilizing the latest and greatest technology including short message services- SMS and thin clients. While we once used cord switchboards and handwritten messages, we now employ a tremendously robust, paperless communication system that allows our team members to have a physician’s on-call information, as well as dispatch preferences for SMS or text messaging at our finger tips. Automated features allow us to route different types of calls to skilled team members in multiple languages and physician specialties, along with scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility and directly integrating with our clients’ software. The Cosmopolitan Medical Communications team member of today is now highly computer literate and well versed in medical terminology. Many auxiliary services are now automated, however, the constant connection from past to present has been our employee’s; it is our wonderful team that still truly makes the difference.
